We knew from the previous article that the agreed price, or the price that buyer have to pay the seller will be prioritized to be used as the price for tax calculation
However there are times that the customs see that values declared by the business are not valid and thus request the business to prove that the declared value is valid. The process is called Customs price consultant.
When customs receive the declared value from the importer, they will cross check with the average price on their system and if the declared value is lower, they will issue the notification requesting the importer to prove that the declared value is valid.
The importer will have to prepare the set of documents and have a meeting with customs to prove that they met all the conditions to use the “agreed price”, the meeting will take place within 30 days from the declaration date. In the meantime, the shipment can be picked up and delivered to the importer’s warehouse.
The document required for price consultant are:
+ Standard import document (invoice, packing list, B/L)
+ Catalog/document regarding the import cargo
+ The email working between 2 parties
After the meeting, depending on the result, if the declared price is accepted, the declaration is completed, if the declared price is rejected, the customs will use the price they determine and the importer has to pay additional tax/duties, if any.
