We knew from the previous article that there’s a chance for the shipment to be in the red lane, thus it will be inspected by the customs. This inspection is an actual inspection and the container is opened and cargo is inspected directly, manually by the customs officer. However, there is another type of inspection, where the containers will be scanned by x-ray device, this is called X-ray inspection.
This type of inspection does not depend on the lane given when the declaration is provided to the customs system, so when will this type of inspection happen? Below is the possible reason:
+ Randomly chosen by the system
+ Change from Yellow lane to do x-ray inspection (by requirement of customs office)
+ Demanded by general department of customs or other government authorities, most likely when the cargo is in the list issued by the risk management.
The customs officer analyze the scanning and the conclusion can be one of the following:
+ No suspicion, the clearance can be continued normally
+ There are suspicions, change to manual inspection.
The containers required to be inspected by X-ray scanner are published regularly on the official website of customs department
